This page has lots of information, but if you would like to talk to someone, please do contact us. To discuss making a cash gift, please contact Ruth Stanley on +44 (0)114 222 1075. Gift Aid and tax deductions

Gift Aid (UK tax payers)

The University of Sheffield is an exempt charity (no. X 1089). Donations made by UK tax payers may qualify for tax benefits. If you make a 'Gift Aid declaration' on the donation form or over the phone, the Inland Revenue will increase your gift by 28p for every £1.00 you give. If you pay higher rate tax, you may reclaim 18% of the gift value through your income tax return. This can enable higher rate tax payers to make a larger gift at no additional cost.

US Tax deductions

US taxpayers are eligible for tax deductions if they make a gift through the 'University of Sheffield in America, Inc.' This is our 501(c)(3) registered non-profit in the States (EIN 30-0207689).

Ways of giving

There are several different ways to donate money to support your University. Here are just a few:

Single gifts

To make a gift, please click on the right-hand side link to make a donation online.

Alternatively, use the donation form in the "Downloads" section on the right. Return the whole form, with your chosen method of payment, to us at:

Development and Alumni Relations Office, The University of Sheffield, 267 Glossop Road, Sheffield, S10 2HB (United Kingdom).

Cheques should be made payable to "The University of Sheffield". We also accept the following credit and debit cards:

  • Visa
  • Mastercard
  • Switch
  • Maestro
  • Solo

Regular gifts (UK)

You may like to give through a monthly, quarterly or annual standing order. This is a convenient way to give regularly and is easy to set up.

Regular gifts help us to act now and also plan for the future. This kind of support is important for longer-term committments, such as scholarships.

To make a regular donation using your credit or debit card, please click on the right-hand side to set up a regular payment online.

Alternatively, to set up a standing order from your bank account, please print and complete section A of our donation form. The form can be downloaded from the right hand menu, or you can telephone Mrs Ruth Stanley +44 (0)114 222 1075 for more information.

Donors who make a regular gift automatically join our new Gift Club for regular donors, the Silver Arrows Circle.

Charities Aid Foundation (CAF)

The University of Sheffield has charitable status so gifts may be given using your CAF card or cheques.

Visit the Charities Aid Foundation website.

A gift in your Will

Legacy gifts continue to play an important role in the development of the University. Gifts from the estates of alumni, former staff and friends help to provide scholarships, endowments and new facilities.

Pledging a gift in your Will is a wonderful way to show your support for the University's long term future. Please contact Miles Stevenson, Director of Development on +44 (0)114 222 1070.

Find out more on our Legacy page.

Matching gifts

Many employers run a Matching Gift programme, that will match any donation you make to a charity. This may double or triple the value of your gift.

To find out if your employer will match your gift, please contact your human resources or finance department. If so, they will give you a form to complete and send to us with your gift.
